Stop Windows Updates Restarting a Server

If Windows has applied updates and is now counting down to a reboot you can do the following to prevent a reboot.

1. Open  a CMD window

2. Type "NET STOP WUAUSERV" (Without the quotes) and press enter- This prevents the scheduled reboot

You can then disable automatic updates so that they only download by doing the following:

1. Press/Click the Start Button

2. Type "Updates" and select "Windows updates"

3. Click on "Change Settings"

3. Change the options from "Auto download and install" to another option that will only download them as/when you want them.
